>I'd agree that it's a very general statement, but there sure are lots and lots of things I can't understand about the 'non-western' world. Some simple examples:

>- female circumcision;
That's not about muslims. I know it's doing some Africa countries.

>- arranged marriages;
If you mentioned marriages with mom's find a bride for their's son's, yes some people do it, but it's not general.

>- multiple wives;
That's not legal in Turkey but some people do that. I know there is a religious does that in USA too.

>- dowries;
That's a tradition. East world has a lot of old traditions. But like in indian killing brides for dowries of course brutality.

>- killing female infants;
Are you serious? That's a tradition of arabs before Islam. Islam forbidded that.

>- letting cows wander the streets;
Yes, we eat them. But it's about buddist's religion. Religion is a group of rules. You can believe in or not.

>- "banking" in Muslim countries;
Actually they don't different from west. There's a trick. West banks give credits with interest estimates. Interest is forbidden in Islam. So then if you want credits from my bank. I ask you what you do with that interest? You says "I want a car". Okey I'll buy that car at 10.000 USD and I'll sell it you at 11.000 USD with payments... :)) You can see actually not different from west banking system...

>- the power of Imams in controlling the people;
In Turkey imams can't control people. Because in Turkey imams casual people. But in arab world imams choosed from special persons. So they can impress people strong.

>- child labour;
In poor countries children have to work. Why you cannot understand? If you'll die for hungury, you have to do work.

>- common 'property' (i.e. not owned by someone);
Are you kidding? Isn't your government has "common properties" ? Common property means "there is owned by government so people so common"

>- legally killing females who 'dishonour' the family;
That's not legal in Turkey. I'm sure that's not legal in any country.

The others you asked I don't heard them.
