This is a widely believed misperception about the Mormon church, also known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Polygamy was disavowed by the church over 100 years ago. It still happens, but is not sanctioned by any church I know about.

I agree with you. We might wish it were not so, but we shouldn't project our values onto those whose circumstances are radically different from our own. (That is one of the reasons I read your posts with interest, and why I don't like some of the "piling on" that has gone on here lately).
