>You mean that if you don't use up your sick allowance you can legally take these days off as holiday?I don't see why not ... they haven't yelled at me yet, so either they haven't caught it yet (which wouldn't surprise me) or it's ok.
>I've also often heard on US TV (esp. cop progs) where a guy suddenly dons-tools and says "I'm taking a 'personal day'" - presumably days that are set aside for personal and family crises?I don't know if we have "personal days" or not, but we can take un-paid days off I think. But, if I can get away with using sick days for vacation and going in the hole on my vacation time, then I'm not gonna take any un-paid days off. Besides, there are plenty of times when I work longer than 8-hour days ... I don't feel guilty when I take an extra day or two off here and there. <g>

>>I'm *supposed* to get only 2 weeks, but we can carry over a lot too. I had carried over *some* from last year (about a week) and I *still* got to take 6 weeks off!!! I used a lot of sick time to make up the difference (because I *never* get sick enough to take those days for real), and now I'm in the hole for only about 4 vacation days. They let you get behind for a week I think. Anyway, it worked out great!

>>>>There is just something wrong with the idea of a
3 week vacation anyway. Who gets 3 weeks? How do you get 3 weeks all at one time??? And look what happens when you take a 3 week vacation! Your head gets bigger!! :o) *G*

>>>When you're an American and only get, what? - 2 weeks a year it must sound outlandish. I actually get 6 weeks a year - I've yused 1 for my scuba diving trip to Egypt. Usually I only take 2 in the summer and eke out the remaing in the odd days between summer and Xmas. But this year, esp. as my boss took 3 weeks, I thought, Hell, I'm going to enjoy the extra week in the sun, instead of miserable rainy days in Oct/Nov. Pity it was the week the weather broke! :-)
