The transit system is one of the great things in Europe. America's biggest missing feature is a public transit system. Some large metropolitan areas have them, but not across America. The majority Americans rely on their personal autos for transportation with no other alternatives. Buses here in my area are unreliable and only go to certain locations - multiple stops/changes are required and there can be a 20 minute wait in between each one. The closest bus stop to me is 7 miles away... hardly a walk!

>Ah, it's a difference in scale. Here I have 1 10 yds across the road from work, 2 within 10 mins walk from my home, 4+ within 20 mins walk, and so on. But we also have various and regular buses, often pharmacies within a supermarket, etc.

>>The difference is that when you or your child is sick, you can avoid the mall, the grocery store, and just about everything else except the pharmacy. The last thing I would want to do when my daughter needed a prescription filled is to take her on a stroll to the pharmacy. To most Americans, the Pharmacy is at least 5 miles away if not more. The closest pharmacy to me is 7.5 miles away. I have many memories of taking my daughter to the pharmacy when she was little to pickup a prescipt when she was sick - a very big nuisance but a necessity. Single parents don't have anyone at home to watch the sick child while you go to the pharmacy for their medicine.

>>>>IAC, it would have been nice to have a drive-through pharmacy when I had two little kids. Not having to unbuckle them and take them in and get the medicine and tell them no candy and tell them no snack foods and take them back out and buckle them in just to pick up a prescription would have been great.

>>>Well you would have to do that in any store you visited, so what's special about the pharmacy? Why drive to it in the first place, when you could push the smaller and walk the bigger?
