Thanks Neil.I appreciate your response.

Would you please elaborate a little about;

1) what is the "hosts" file for ?

2) On my own machine (where I don't have the problem), there is only this:

127.0.0.1 localhost

3) How would I know if "FTP machine is set to local" ?
(ie; what should I look for?)

4) and finally what should I change it to ?
(or should I just delete the line?)

>Sorry I missed the bit about the other computer accessing OK. Check the hosts file on the errant machine to see if it has an entry for the FTP machine that is set to local. See C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
