Not really. Imagine the consequences of a team with the lowest paid players winning the world series. That would've hurt the sport ($$$$$$$$) very badly. A proof that $$$$$ does'nt necessarily buy the world series.

So now partly because of that they don't have salary cap and you have a sport where the big market teams can hope to go to the world series because of the huge amount they give to their players. Oh sure from time to time a small market team can win it. Luck can intervene there from time to time.

Can't wait to see a guy earning more $$$$ than an entire (small market) team.
