>The Bracero Program (concerned with agriculture) began in August of 1942, and lasted until 1964. There are two sides to the story and perhaps there is some truth from both sides. One side of the story is that the Baracero Program contracted specific individuals for a specified period of time to work in the United States.
>
>While Pat Brown was governor, it was allowed that a worker could bring his/her family. Children had to go to school. Each family or individual had to be given a proper place to sleep and live. At the end of the season the workers would return to Mexico with his/her earnings. Places of business that used Bracero labor were inspected by the state of California for complience.
>
>The other side of the story is that there were “human rights violations”. That term was not used in 1964 but is in use today. The term used in 1964 was “raciest”, and the program was abolished.
>
>Today we have illegal aliens who work as Bracero’s sleeping on the ground in many areas of California. No one looks out for them. They are exploited by employers and life is difficult for them.
>
>It has been estimated that about 30% of California drivers do not have automobile insurance. You have to have a valid drivers license to buy automobile insurance. According to several state laws passed by voters in California, you must have automobile insurance to drive in this state. Illegal aliens are not allowed to have valid drivers licenses. Wards of the state (welfare) are not required to have insurance. Many people cannot afford insurance. Be sure that you have uninsured motorists insurance!

>By the way the California Employment Development Department after the Bracero program was abolished, offered agricuultural jobs to unemployed. One person accepted the job and lasted one hour before quiting, in 1964. As is typical of the media no followup to this story has been given.

I do have uninsured coverage - The maximum amount offered!

The "Pay at the Pump" insurance program initiative failed.
Why is that?
It would really make sense to make sure that every car on the road had some unavoidable minimum level of insurance.

Pity about abolishing the official bracero program and leaving anarchy in it's place.
