>>The problem is that some of the reports need to be printed on an as-needed basis. Ideally, users should be able to call up a listing of available reports (they can already do this using Windows Explorer), right-click on the desired file and click on Print, which would send a copy to their default printer. Unfortunately, when they do this now, the results differ from printer to printer and from user to user.

So far as I know, there aren't any printer control codes embedded, however, the first line of each large downloaded file (the file that contains a variety of reports) has printer control codes listed in the first record. I copied this one record to a separate file and put it at the beginning of each report text file. Whenever I print a report text file, I get a small square at the beginning of each line - would that be a printer control code?

Currently, in order to print each large downloaded file, one of two approaches is used, depending on who is doing it: one lady goes out to DOS and types in and she gets what she wants. Another lady uses Windows 3.1's WRITE utility and calls up the file, which asks her if she wants to convert it to some format - she says OK, and prints it out from there. Both ladies get nice, dark print, maybe 15 or 16 characters/inch on letter portrait, which is what they want.

Thanks for any ideas you may have. I will be leaving town Sunday for a week's trip to the Rockies, but I will keep checking my email until about 6pm CDST today, if you come up with anything.
