>:o) Funny you should write that! I ran cable in the lower level, but I do have a laptop now that I use regularly as well and I like to be able to move around the house (especially the front porch on a nice day) and still connect. Wireless has gotten much faster now so it was inexpensive and well worth it. The router has a combination wireless/wired so it can be used either way. I did have to implement an extra security level of course, but I typically do that anyway.
I have a 50m CAT5 in the winter garden to throw out into the garden if necessary and enough cable if moving to the balcony. The german magazine c'T estimated that it takes about 2 weeks on a current cpu to crack the higher encryption offered today without too many undue attempts to login. So if you have a neighbour who is disinclined to run SETI as a screensaver but doesn't mind a slightly elevated electric bill you might have a visitor BEHIND the firewall the router is offering within a few days. Paranoid's have enemies as well, so don't tell us how many levels of logging exist to track down those unwanted guests ;-)
