While most of our soldiers may come from lower income households - mostly because there were not many other options available to them and during peacetime the option of serving in the military in exchange for a college education afterward is a very good avenue. Of course during wartime it is an entirely different thing - they are basically risking their lives for a college education or in some cases, a military career.

Having written that, there are MANY soldiers who are actually not hurting for money and are successful in their careers but who took time off to serve in the military. I know of quite a few myself. We cannot forget them as well. Also, while recruiters may stretch reality as far as they can to meet recruiting goals, EVERY SOLDIER is told the reality and the risks WHEN THEY take their oath. No one is really blind. Besides, all of the new recruits are fairly well informed on the risks and the soldiers dying in Iraq thanks to our media that of the world.

All of what I have written above has NOTHING to do with how we got to Iraq. That is a separate subject entirely.

>Of course it was a joke!!
>In your view GWB is doing something repulsive; But I don’t understand, should Kerry be condone for these remarks?
>I don’t care what anybody thinks of Bush, but I get offended when somebody calls our military retards.
>When they are fighting, *for our sake* risking their lives.

>>>This is truly repulsive. I am so glad I did not vote for this guy (not that I ever had the intentions)
>>>This is NOT Rush Libmbaugh that sometimes talks out of his behind this guy wanted/want to be the Commander in Chief.

>>It was a botched joke. Although in poor taste, why is that more repulsive than GWBush looking under tables and chairs for WMDs as a joke in front of the Radio and Television Correspondents' Association, while people are dying in Iraq.
