>The simple solution is to divide the country into Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish regions. Seems like things have been peaceful in the north where the Kurds are located. The only problem with that plan is that Iran and Turkey promised to attack the Kurds if they become autonomous!

How about anexing Iraq into 54th US state ? I doubt Turkey wld have objections/counter measures to that... <g>

Or maybe reinventing/reinstalling some Saddam clone ?
[SaddamH: 'I was strict - but just!']
S-Clone will hv to smile to internationall press, swear on protecting democracy&human rights (forever), not kill to meny people (in public), and of course - he should be manageable via simple dial-up connection :)
If he wipe out few villages here and there, it will be for good cause
(protecting democracy & law & order) so (inter)nationall press does not really hv to horn all about it... Just like in good old times :)

Or some Iraqi native royal blood family that will (re)introduce to Iraqees
some of that sharia law look&feel (which is regional preference btw)
Like one that is in SaudiA or Jordan for instance. They can be still friends with US, licking each other (oily) fingers, prising each other as allies etc.

Oh, I forgot, things went to far and to bad in Iraq!
None of above is aplicable for right now, but tmrw who knows...

[Had a bad day so I am somewhat bitter, but now seriosely]

There will be long long civil war going on out there, with or without US troops present. Power/Oil sharing deals between all interested parties will be at first bloodly fought and then eventualy (re)negotiated. Then things will slowly calm down.
Couple of US administrations from now - Iraq will end up again as typical middle east country without democracy, widespread corruption, troubled past and uncertain future.
