I have one report out of ten that my customer would like to print on legal size paper. It appears after calling technical support the only way to have this report use the correct paper size I must use the Advance Report designer.

Doing this is creating some undesired issues. This report is a log for transactions sent to the department of motor vehicles on a daily basis. The work sheet table contains information about the vehicle and logical fields for the services to be provided. For each service selected the report should have a record. This means in the worksheet table one record could be represented by as many as eight records on the transaction log. To accomplish this I added these logical fields to the report in step two of the quick report wizard. I then changed the caption width to zero for the items I did not want to print on the report. Then in the after data code I scan through the report cursor and create the appropriate transaction records. All of this is currently working. However if I change the report and tell it to use Advanced Layout all of the fields with a corresponding caption of zero are removed from the data set and the report. Now to get the report working I have to add all of these fields back to the report in the advanced report designer. This seems to be a lot of work just to change the default paper size for the report.

Would it possible to have the paper size or printer set up available per report? Perhaps this could be added to the Formatting Options step in the report wizard. May be the solution could be adding an additional property to the selected fields for the report, some thing like Do Not Print or For Query Only. This would indicate which fields should be included on the report and which should be in the data set. Another option may be to use a template. I tried creating a template with legal as the paper size and assigning this to the transaction log report. This doesn’t seem to work either; the report is using the paper size of the report not the template.
