Mike,

no offence intended, but if you are a newbie to VFP, and since so many features have been added, and so many bugs have been fixed, why don't you upgrade NOW? It's a big chance that you are actually spending a lot of time on something which has been fixed or changed in newser versions. If time is money, you lose money every hour you don't upgrade. Intellisense itself is enough reason to upgrade.
