Speaking personally;

iro stability - I run many machines on XP and literaly never have a crash. This would not be a reason for me to spend time and money to upgrade.

iro security - more secure perhaps but security is not something I would leave to Windows. Without personal firewall, av, ids/ips, etc from best of breed third party vendors your security is threatened. PatchGuard has already been cracked. Plus the fact that for the average PC user the outside world is not the threat to security. They are :)

>>I must say I read these "Vista experience" posts diligently. However, I cannot see any compelling reason to get it. There were real reasons for previous versions of Windows - stability, security, speed. But Vista for the average user?

>>My problem with these upgrades is the time and effort required to install, learn, fiddle with them, mess about trying to get all the other things that were working so nicely before to work again, hardware upgrades to run the eye candy, etc. I couldn't be bothered until at least SP1 and perhaps not even then.

>>This leaves the issue of does our software work on Vista. Well, I guess we'll find that out soon enough :) And if it does, great. And if it doesn't well either there will be a fix or there won't be :/
