Please, do not take what I am going to say as defense of M$ (s), but I am not as surprised by what you describe as you seem to be: Remember that your form is not modal, that means that in a multi tasking system, it relinquishes control to the calling routine long before you had the time to say 'ouf', let allone to click on anything. My guess is that once the Init event is executed your maintask receives the array back, and since you have not changed anything there, all you see is 'Apple'.

Does not really solve your problem eh! We really should know more about your problem and what you are trying to achieve.
