Okay, there may be a cultural element involved here. In Holland we very often do not communicate the visit in advance. And we do not have the right to shoot trespassers. :)

The 'do not open your door to strangers' is here only the advice to children. But sure, common sense tells us all that there are certain situations where we better not open the door. But hey, a twit-filter is given to a known person, so the analogy is not for the case of strangers.
