That's an intersting article, Ms Rhona Research, and more or less complements what I said. However, if hispanics object to America referring only to the USA why did they sing "I love to be in America" in West Side Story? :-)

Still, no-one's come up with either of the expressions I heard on QI. Maybe you guys just aren't aware of them.
