Here we get onto global warming again. I hear that the Alps are pretty thin with snow this year. It's blamed on global warming. So what do European skiers do? they fly to the US to enjoy their snowier slopes, esp. with the cheap dollar (Xmas shopping weekends in NY are also becoming very popular with Brits), thus exacerbating the global warming problem.

>>Zurs in Austria I think.
>Zürs near Lech is one of the larger arenas - and quite expensive today.
>Usually I went to another valley and only made a short visit to Lech for a few days & nights.

>>In Switzerland, I cannot remember the name anylonger something like wingen or wengen...
>Wengen near Grindelwald - been there a few times as well. A few different ski areas all within a few minutes drive and all having different characteristics - and one going up to nearly 3000m. The higher peaks/stations in switzerland can challenge you more than almost everything in austria and italy if you are in the mood to tire yourself out, even if those place have more slopes on lesser mountains.

>no way M'Lady...
>>My favorite slope is actually in the U.S. - Telluride's Plunge... :o) I was fortunate to be able to do a lot of downhill skiing in Colorado because I lived there during my teen years.
>Never skiid (skiied ? skied ) in the US - I usually went to TexMex areas. Since you have so much more of a continent it is probably not only gorgeous but also less crowded than it is over here.

>>Every weekend a carload of us went to a different location. Downhill skiing in the winter and four-wheeling in the summer was about all we did back then (that and diving off the cliffs near Colorado National Monument to swim in the summer and that was the STUPIDEST thing I ever did).
>
>Cliff diving I'ld probably never do - too much fear of spine injury and paralysis. But I've surely managed to surpass normal and elevated levels of stupidity in other ways during the adrenaline addiction years.
