FWIW, I use Excel 2003 and use TYPE XLS with no problem, but I have seen similar things when, say a file is originally create with 2002 when edited with 97.

>Yes, I had thought of that, but not gotten to it yet (I was doubtful about that solution, since this is Excel 2002). I just tried it. Unfortunately, my doubts were correct. Same problem. But then I just saved it in the Excel 5.0/95 format and the problem is solved.
