Interesting comment Jos. I think you will find that when it comes to war, Generals are usually the last to recommend it or support it. It should always be the absolute last resort. Only used when no other options are available and even then sometimes not used at all unless necessary for national defense. Typically, it is the politicians who have never been to war or spent time in the military who push for it as a means to an end.
