>>>Europe has fought so many wars and lost so many human lifes and the past centuries, that it is tired to fight. It mainly uses diplomacy to solve conflicts and tries to unite nations (birth of EU) before conflicts can occur.

>>>Whether this is always the best choice is something I cannot judge, but I'm not a big supporter of the agressive and easy way that the US is reaching to take up the arms either.

>I've met a number of British now living here in Canada who were born after WWII. When a fire alarm or other siren goes off, believe me, they take it far more seriously than we who were born here. No they didn't experience the air raids directly, but if you think that the psychology of it is not passed on through the generations, then you aren't looking at it nearly deeply enough.

I was brought up with so many tales of air raids on Liverpool, from my mother and nan, of hiding under the stairs, of going into shelters, etc., that one day, as a small kid walking in the local village, I heard an aircraft overhead and ran to take cover.

I can remember the "bommies" - bomb sites all over Liverpool, uncleared heaps of brick and rubble, whole streets flattened, the money not being available to clear the even up to decades after the War. Liverpool's museum, a huge greco-roman facade, had nought but a wee side gallery open when my dad took me to it. I remember thinking "what a swizz", not realising that the facade was all that was left of the building, originally based on the Basilica of Rome
