So you don't "like" the technique you've decided upon <g>. I use reason, evidence, and experience, too. Were you thinking you were the only one? But given the same or similar evidence, people will come to different conclusions depending on their situations. Hopefully we'll agree the sky is blue, but may differ on what shade. It's the ones who think the sky is green that we have to worry about (of course, you live in the Great White North, so at times - at night at least - your sky might be multicolored <g>). Anyway, you take what I said too far. When did I say we should use very possible technique in every app? I just want to use the technique that works best for the situation, the client, and me. Actually, I like the CA. But PVs are not a bad choice. One reason you may end up with multiple query techniques in an app is simply its age. But, again, there is no basis for your "asking for trouble" statement just because different techniques are used. But now it's time to go to sleep. You know, only geeks sit around discussing this stuff on the UT on Saturdays!!

>"Like" has nothing to do with it. I use reason, evidence and experience. Bias is unconsidered opinions. Tradition is a lack of rethinking the current situations. I have thoroughly considered PVs and finally dismissed them. I've experienced many difficulties with PVs. It seems even Microsoft recognizes their limitations or why would they have devised CursorAdaptors?

>Let me put it to you this way. Should we use every possible technique for every app? Isn't that like saying it's OK to use every possible adhesive and construction technique to build a bridge? You'll end up with a darn funny looking bridge. Does an engineer use duct-tape to hold the girders together? Not a chance. Engineers seem to reduce the number of techniques and refine those practices.

>We're building database apps. There does not have to be 10 ways to handle every query. It is obviously more efficient to use one capable technique than to use several. It is obviously far more difficult to master several techniques. Therein lies the risk. If you've not mastered one of the several techniques, but you use it, that can be a place of less quality. Nothing unfounded about that either.
