>For those who say "DOS is dead!", these are not DOS machines. These are customers who go out and buy a brand new Vista computer in order to run their Legacy application that they still prefer. Even though the VFP version is available.

I'm not willing to say DOS is dead, partly because we still have customers using the DOS version of our app compiled in Clipper S/86. These applications are still out there and will die slow and painful deaths.

But we've also told them point blank (many times) that we'll no longer be updating it and can't guarantee that the app will work going forward on newer hardware and newer operating systems.

It's not up to you. They can (and should) stick with older hardware if they want to run older software.

One of our LAN/Support guys spent the better half of a day this week getting the latest version of QuickBooks installed and working. They have "modernized" their requirements (and, IMO, done it stupidly - they've actually made themselves Vista-incompatible).

We have two choices: adapt to the new requirements or stick with the old software and old environment.

Your users have the same choice to make.
