He says in his dream Jesus came back to earth and proved beyond doubt that he was the son of God, the savior, the light. "I had nothing left to live for," the priest says.

The "credo quia absurdum est" isn't just "I believe, despite it being absurd", it works the other way too: "since it's absurd, there's no way around it but to just take it on faith". The alternative is to, well, not believe.
