Ah, ok then we aren't talking about survival of the species, we're just talking about out procreating other peoples.I referred to "survival of the species" in response to somewhat hysterical descriptions of marriage and procreation being stock farm animal behavior. I was pointing out that, ahem, procreation is how the species survives, not something to be treated like an undesirable wart on your nose. ;-) It's a statement of fact, not a justification for any sort of procreative behavior. ;-)
Perhaps I'm influenced by an official paper I read the other day. A paid consultant was going to produce a report on the incidence of mortality to allow a round table discussion the following week. My response is that the incidence of mortality is 100%, so what's to discuss? That doesn't mean that I think death isn't important, nor is it an argument against gay marriage or anything else with a connection perceived by somebody else. It's just an inescapable fact.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
