True. It has gotten a lot better.
But you do have the problem that HTML in essence is a very limited UI technology. A dormant one on top of it. Nothing new happens in HTML. Of course, AJAX is squeezing the heck out of it, but still, you could have done everything 10 years ago. At least now one is more productive building this sort of stuff (which admittedly is a huge issue).
A next-generation UI HTML ain't, no matter how you look at it...
