Peter,

>Had we KNOWN at that time that development would stop in 2007, most of us would have abandoned the fox at that time.

Sorry, but don't include ME in that WE -- I'm not "abandoning the fox" even now after the announcement. However, for years I have been learning new technologies, just as I have been doing since I first started out as a software developer years ago.

Every developer should try to learn something new every year just to keep up with changes in technology. For me, the ride has included learning not just FoxPro syntax and classes, but OOP principles, nTier design, Web development concepts, Web Connection, ASP, HTML, JavaScript, DHTML, DHTML behaviors, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PHP, COM, COM+, XML, HTTP protocol, VB6, VB.NET, C#, .NET Framework, ASP.NET, and several more that either I forgot to list or just plain forgot. :-)

Yet, 90% of my work is still in VFP. However, because I've been willing and inquisitive enough to learn enough about the above to actually use it in projects where needed, I feel personally much better-equipped to bid on a variety of projects where some combination of the above is required and to redistribute the emphasis on any of the above (and new ones I will continue to learn) as the need arises.

Again, I say: Every developer should learn something new every year.
