>In North Carolina, anyone can take a baby to a hospital or fire station or police station and leave it - no questions asked. It came about after a baby was found on the side of the road a couple of years ago.
We do have only one baby window in our country. I remember the out cry in the community as it has been established. Especially as it's located in a pure catholic part of Switzerland. But today it's well accepted.
The most important point IMHO is, that the "drop off" can be made completely anonymous, which is the case at the baby hatch. I don't know, but I guess every fire station and hospital in the USA has some security cameras working on premises. Therefore, there are some "footprints".. But being able to go to any fire station or hospital and leave the baby is for sure a good thing.
What happens to the baby? How long until it's going to be put up for adoption? What happens when the mother decides she wants her baby back?
