without consulting the community and companies who have invested in that product?!! My personal opinion is: NO.

?? Is Microsoft a public utility? A government entitlement program? Is it in a socialist country where it can be nationalized?
No. Microsoft is an American corporation. It is owned by shareholders. It has primary responsibility to them. It generates revenue for shareholders through its' customer base, of which VFP developers are a VERY small minority.
You can influence Microsoft's decisions. Buy enough of a product to make it financially wise to keep it going and I have no doubt Microsoft would do just that. Buy enough stock in the company to influence shareholder voting and you'll be able to sway the company.
Other than that, buy and use products that they make that make business sense to you. Buy products from other companies if they are better. Develop your own products (like Microsoft does) and market them if there is a good market for your product.
But in the end, Microsoft owes you nothing except a good product IF they make it. Surprisingly they have done that for a long time with VFP even though it probably was not worth it to their bottom line. They decided to stop around the time they put out the VFP roadmap in 2005 (which was a little obtuse but still definitely showed no more VFP after VFP9). They just made the formal announcement last month.
There will be no more VFP versions from Microsoft (period). Move on.
