I've reviewed your combo base class. (For some reason, UT refuses to give me a "Reply" option on that message.)

Apparently, the problem I had must be related to version 3.0 because I'm essentially doing the same thing you are, but the new record isn't showing up in the list portion of the combo. I've already told the client that this won't be fixed until they upgrade to version 5.
