That's been the case ever since McVillian took over the industry. The VB4 round was really the beginning of the end.
There's simply no point in writing these books anymore other than to A) establish a name for yourself, or B) because you can't get a real job. You oughta see the standard contracts these days -- you'd probably die laughing.
No, most folks worthy of writing what you'd define as a "Good VB title" have better ways to spend their time and feed their families these days. With VB, afterall, you can often earn more in a week or two than if you spend three or six months writing a book that sells 20,000 copies.
