I got a new Dell widescreen with the shiny screen and thought it would drive me crazy too but I actually like it now that I'm used to it.

I'm not sure if it's Vista or the video card, but it's pretty smart about knowing how to rearrange things when you switch down to lower resolution and only a single display.
