>Good article Mike.

Thanks.

No I haven't. I haven't been writing software lately. But that looks like a pretty awesome product.

FoxPro, dBASE & Clipper File Compatibility: A High-Performing Standard

CodeBase-powered applications are multi-user file compatible with FoxPro, dBASE and Clipper (xBASE). You can read and write the data, index and memo files of xBASE at the same time as applications written in xBASE.

It used to be that between Mac and Windows, the hardware makers could count on moving along with the software makers.

But now, in 2007, it really doesn't look like Linux is going anywhere.

And I mean that two ways. It's not going to disappear, and it's probably not going to start pushing on the boundaries of the hardware that'll come.

The hardware as of 2002 was good enough for most everything 80% of all multi-user database solutions required.

And because of Linux, instead of that level of hardware getting forced into obsoletion by an OS manufacturer, it will remain commercially viable to manufacture and support.

Fortunately, since Windows 2000 runs on the same hardware, I don't see how the technology that exists right now is not sustainable for 50 years or more.

If anything, the same architecture will be miniaturized and put in hand helds, set tops* and other nodes which will open up the need for new applications.

* I talked about a concept I called "PC 3.0" a while ago, and said the new form factors are gonna be hand helds and set top boxes. Earlier this year Apple announced their new smart phone and set top, iPhone and iTV, on the same day.
