This old stuff thing is often quite common in the lower end of small businesses as well. In the places where a real quick and dirty RAD custom solution in VFP is all that is (barely) affordable you will quite often find lots of other old stuff where the small business is not able to afford better and have a custom application. So ya got to deal with the old stuff or write off such small (but paying) clients.

And every onece in a while one of these little guys has a great idea and they don't stay little. It is nice to "ride up" with them to where they can afford some really nice stuff and you get to provide it too!

Such small businesses may well still go for an economical VFP solution, if you can show a path to "better" and "more modern" later.

So, I am working up methods and a story of how to start with VFP RAD and use the RAD "model" in the initial phase while slowly migrating to .NET as the small business grows and can afford the MSFT's 'latest' thing that offers a "richer" user experience for "richer" users!

Many companies tend to view payroll as a cost center that generates no profit (and thus are considered to be low priority) -- meaning that in-house payroll departments usually end up with the "hand-me-down" computers from other departments. It has been quite a while since we've been asked for a floppy diskette install (though I wouldn't be suprised if we were to get such a request).
