Your ideas was actually the way I was going then it dawned on me that perhaps someone else has already done some utility to merge tables into one and avoid null values for fields that didn't exist in the other tables. I thought maybe you were looking for a black box type function that would allow you to pass maybe table names. The null thing is the show stopper on the SQL - I would imagine. At any rate, I had just used a similar function to do this.
