The version of MySQL that is used by one of the applications at my current client's site does not support transaction logging AFAIK, although it isn't a fully up-to-date version.

I have no doubt that Oracle would be safer judging from what I have seen of MySQL (I'm certainly not an expert though). It would certainly be lots more expensive anyway.

I'd look at Microsoft SQL server before Oracle unless there was a real need to spend lots more money..
