I think there would be logistical problems with that. Besides, owners of gas guzzlers already pay more, since they need more gas.

I have a Jetta and do a mix of highway and city driving. It gets right around 30 mpg every time. A fill-up now costs over $40, and with my work commute plus numerous trips back and forth to Wisconsin I have to fill it up at least once a week. Gas is now one of the biggest items in my budget.
