I think that the issue is more serious. There is the full picture.

1) The apps is located on a domain server.
2) The remote access user doesn't log in the domain but in the machine.
3) The type and IP address of the local printer is unknowned and change often

So, at this point, I can't see how I can use your advice. But maybe I'm wrong and it's just that I didn't understand your point.
