>Maybe USA expects Turkey support as some kind of repay for all money that your country received as American military and economical help. Being interested in American policy you certainly keep the score.
>I would also imagine that Al Qaida-like organizations have some idea how Turkey society should be rebuilt. I don't know your personal opinion on the topic but many your countrymen would not be too happy with these changes.

The US - Turkey relationship is a long-term success story on a lot of levels. What we have done with Turkey has been based on mutual interest - probably more so than with most of the countries that received American aid in the last half of the 20th century. We have received a lot of support from Turkey - some of it not very public for domestic reasons.

I think we've gotten much better value for what we have invested in Turkey than we have from most of our military and diplomatic relationships. The situation with the PKK is an awkward one - especially since now we are on the other side of the border with an interest in keeping the Kurds happy as well. It is tricky, but I understand why the Turks find this frustrating, too.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
