>>>OK... Why you want help about El Kaida from us? You want help from us and we want... Why it's incorrect?

>>Maybe USA expects Turkey support as some kind of repay for all money that your country received as American military and economical help. Being interested in American policy you certainly keep the score.
>>I would also imagine that Al Qaida-like organizations have some idea how Turkey society should be rebuilt. I don't know your personal opinion on the topic but many your countrymen would not be too happy with these changes.

>The US - Turkey relationship is a long-term success story on a lot of levels. What we have done with Turkey has been based on mutual interest - probably more so than with most of the countries that received American aid in the last half of the 20th century. We have received a lot of support from Turkey - some of it not very public for domestic reasons.

>I think we've gotten much better value for what we have invested in Turkey than we have from most of our military and diplomatic relationships. The situation with the PKK is an awkward one - especially since now we are on the other side of the border with an interest in keeping the Kurds happy as well. It is tricky, but I understand why the Turks find this frustrating, too.

Too much understanding can easily become a liability. I mean that the whole Iraq story got drawn in attempts to 'understand' every nuance of Iraqi specifics (including Turkish-Kurdish relations). At some point, one should admit that 'too much' is really too much.
In regard to Turkey, I quite understand the uniqueness of the country and positives it brings to USA, but it doesn't mean that we have to overextend ourselves (and be thankful to every guy around swallowing whatever he may say/think) for any real or perceived positive around.
