My Father died of this a number of years ago -- he was originally diagnosed at 55 as well -- the surgery was aborted due to spread into rest of body. He underwent treatments and it went into remission for about 10 years. It came back in a fury and he went downhill fast. He had been checking every six months but it happened between the checks. So, my prayers are with you and hope you keep constant with the checkups.
