Hi Doug,
>>>Anyway, I'm about to change my app's install folder to a new root, called "Programs", and get on with life, knowing that my app runs solid again as it did on XP, if it's installed outside of Program Files.

>Yes, I will. Doing so opens a huge security hole on your users' systems. The whole reason for making your program folder read-only is to prevent malware from hijacking your EXE or DLLs and doing bad things to their systems as a result.

If only "the correct thing to to" could also be plainforward and easy... ;-)
As I understand you recommend C:\Users\Public as the place to store shared data. How can installer apps find this path so that the data files can be placed there on installation?
