I assume you're thinking about using .Net with MS-SQL. But it doesn't really matter. One won't necessarily be faster than the other in all cases. MySQL apps can be faster or slow, as can SQL Server. It all depends on implementation.

It depends on your needs. If your customer base is demanding .Net, then you need to learn it. If not, you may still want to learn it for your own personal growth.
