I have been to Toronto several times, but you're not alone. Here in Philly, it's easy to get in and out of downtown and harder to get anywhere else. In addition, inside the city, there are lots of buses and other systems. As soon as you cross the city limit, there are fewer, though there is commuter rail that goes quite far, but only through downtown (or as we refer to it, "Center City").
