>This sounds like it will be an issue to very few people. As a product advances, certain things become more complex and a performance hit is felt. This is not new. Have you tried to run VFP on a 486-66 machine? It is slow. But FoxPro for DOS is still fast on the 486. I would say the solution is to do what you have done (make MicroSoft aware of the difference) and replace all the machines with Pentium II-400s. Or, stick with 5.0 for now.
I won't get into all of the specifics, but telling our clients to replace all of their machines with PII-400's is not going to be a viable solution, and due to a known bug with the RESTORE FROM command in VFP 5.0a that crashes the application with an invalid page fault, staying on VFP 5.0a is not acceptable either.
Besides, the sample code I posted doesn't exhibit the problem anywhere near as badly as our actual application does. I don't think even a PII-400 would be fast enough. This is not a case of something becoming more complex because of added functionality in a newer version - they broke it when fixing another bug and have admitted that already.
