Thanks for your quick response. I went to our network administer with the problem and as we were checking things out he discovered that the backup tape had run out in the directory of the inventory system. That's why the files were read only! What a relief for me as I couldn't figure out what I might have done to create the problem in the first place. So all is well again now that the backup has a new tape! Thanks again for your help.
