There is a quiz show here called "University Challenge" 2 Unis' team of 4 compete for the "starter question" on the buzzer (no conferring). Whichever gets it right gets 10 points, then 4 bonus Q's for the team to discuss, before the next starter, and so on. If you buzz before the Q's finished, and get it wrong, you get 5 points deducted.
Now some wiseacres abuse this system, buzz first and think second. The quizzmaster's too astute not to not know when they're pulling a fast one though, though he does give a few secs' grace - benefit of the doubt.
It's one of teh few quizzes where a team can get into negative points due to trigger-happy no-nothings.
My favourite TV quiz as it's a bit more high-brow than your average.
BTW it's been on TV, besides a break of a few years, for as long as I can remember.
