>There is a quiz show here called "University Challenge" 2 Unis' team of 4 compete for the "starter question" on the buzzer (no conferring). Whichever gets it right gets 10 points, then 4 bonus Q's for the team to discuss, before the next starter, and so on. If you buzz before the Q's finished, and get it wrong, you get 5 points deducted.

>Now some wiseacres abuse this system, buzz first and think second. The quizzmaster's too astute not to not know when they're pulling a fast one though, though he does give a few secs' grace - benefit of the doubt.

Interesting. There was (and probably still is) a similar intellectual game in Russia a while ago called "Brain Ring".
There is also another one I liked called "What Where When". The team has to come up with an answer within 1 minute.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
