I was reading a Microsoft KB article that described 4 ways to move a database. Detaching is the one I haven't tried so will do that now. However, there must be a way to reduce the size of the log file first. I've been testing the data conversion from VFP tables and the log is 400MB--none if it is useful now, especially since this is test data. The SQL docs have a surprisingly thorough discussion of the theory behind truncation but, as usual for Microsoft docs, no straightforward info on how to do it...
