I had someone try to charge $2,242 on one of my credit/debit cards. Good news is that the balance was slightly less than that, so it was just sitting there waiting to be paid. I used the card tonight and it was declined. I knew there was plenty of cash in the account for what I was trying to purchase, so I was at a loss as to what was up. I called my bank and they asked me if I knew of any company called SBUUX, which I didn't. They were the company who had the pending charge. My bank cancelled the card and are overnighting me a new one. Good thing I found out today as tomorrow evening my paycheck would have gone in and the pending charge would have been paid. This is a replacement card for one that expired at the end of September, so I've only had it a couple weeks and have only paid a few utilities and made two purchases at places I've ordered often before; Amazon and such.
How does this happen? I don't have any of the information written down. I run anti-everything software to keep my laptop clean. What else can I do? Happened to me last year - someone tried to use my card to Western Union one large to a friend of his. Fortunately my bank caught it - eventually found out that a guy at a local pizza shop took my card info, and then did a check to find out more info about me. I got a new card - he made a new friend in prison...it's a fair cop.
